During an international BPK-RI training on food security, two young agricultural extension officers from Gianyar delivered impressive technical presentations that captured the attention of participants from around the world. For a moment, Desa Sidan transformed into a global stage.
The Department of Agriculture of Gianyar Regency once again demonstrated its outstanding performance—not only through its programs, but also through the quality of its young human resources who confidently represented the region in an international forum. This achievement was evident during the “Hands-On Audit Training in Cross-Cutting Issues of Food Security”, a prestigious program organized by BPK-RI in Desa Sidan, Gianyar.
The international training brought together 29 participants from 14 countries, alongside representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, the BPK-RI Training Center, and various regional government agencies in Gianyar. Their arrival was warmly welcomed by the local government and the people of Desa Sidan, who proudly hosted the event.
From early morning, the delegates were invited to observe community-based organic farming practices and environmental management firsthand from the UPPO Subak Kwalonan and TPS3R, to the BUMDes initiatives and the scenic Kissidan Eco Hill. Yet, the highlight of the day emerged during the technical presentation session, where two young Gianyar extension officers became the stars of the program.
Confident, Articulate, and Technically Proficient
At UPPO Subak Kwalonan, Novita Eka Safitri, S.TP. currently a agricultural extension officers captured the attention of all participants. With fluent English, she explained the establishment of the UPPO, its operational challenges, and the complete process of producing organic fertilizer from raw materials to finished product.
Her calm demeanor and structured delivery earned appreciation from delegates, who actively asked questions and documented each stage of the demonstration. Novita’s performance proved that Gianyar’s young extension officers are not only skilled in the field, but also ready to shine on the international stage.
Showcasing Strategic Programs
Following Novita’s presentation, Ni Kadek Sintya Dewi, S.P. took the floor with a comprehensive explanation of the Gianyar Agriculture Office’s support for Desa Sidan. Speaking in clear and fluent English, Sintya highlighted a series of flagship programs, including the distribution of certified seeds, organic certification assistance, subsidized fertilizer allocation, agricultural machinery procurement, irrigation rehabilitation, and economic empowerment through BUMDes and local exhibitions.
Her well-structured presentation helped participants gain a deeper understanding of how the Agriculture Office strategically designs and implements programs from upstream to downstream to strengthen the village-level food ecosystem.
Collaboration as the Foundation
The Gianyar Agriculture Office emphasized that Desa Sidan’s success is the result of strong cross-sector collaboration. Various regional agencies DKP-KP, DLH, the Tourism Office, and the Sidan Village Government have jointly built a resilient, productive, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem.
The presence of delegates from 14 countries provided a remarkable opportunity for Desa Sidan to showcase tangible achievements in community-based agriculture. The outstanding performances of Novita and Sintya served as a clear representation that Gianyar’s agricultural extension officers are well-prepared to compete and contribute at the international level.
